How he got here, and what it changed.

The path into orthodontics
He studied biology at the University of Kansas, then took a Doctor of Dental Medicine at A.T. Still University alongside a Certificate of Public Health, which is an unusual pairing and a deliberate one. He went on to Saint Louis University for his orthodontic specialty training and a Master of Science in Dentistry, where his research looked at Invisalign treatment outcomes.
The training that shaped how he treats people
During residency he completed a fellowship with Washington University’s Craniofacial Cleft Lip and Palate Team at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, contributing to multidisciplinary care for children with complex craniofacial conditions. That work sits at the far end of the difficulty range, and it is the reason a coordinated treatment plan, written down and explained before anything starts, is how this practice runs.

Orthodontics is a separate specialty on top of dental school. This is the route Dr. Romans took to get there.

Two of those are worth pausing on. The research at Saint Louis University looked at how Invisalign cases actually finish, which is a narrower and more useful question than whether aligners work at all. It is the same question sitting behind every aligner plan he writes here.
The craniofacial fellowship put him on a team caring for children with complex conditions, where no one specialist owns the whole case. That habit of coordinating with the other people treating a patient did not stay in St. Louis.
How he practises
A straight smile and a working bite are two different jobs.
The second one is the one that has to hold up for the next forty years. The other half of the job is explaining a plan plainly enough that you can weigh it, and say no to it.

One doctor, one location, one focus.
Romans Orthodontics is proudly independent and doctor owned. There is no regional director and no rotating panel of associates, so the treatment plan, the appointment length and the payment arrangement are all decided in this building. If something needs changing, there is one person to ask.
Kids, teens and adults are treated in the same office, which is how one family keeps one orthodontist instead of three. More than 5,000 patients have been treated to date. The first visit is a consultation at no charge, at any age.
