Board certification by the American Board of Orthodontics is voluntary. An orthodontist can practise a full career without ever submitting finished cases to a panel of examiners. Dr. Romans did. Behind it: a biology degree from the University of Kansas, a DMD and a Certificate in Public Health from A.T. Still University, an MSD from Saint Louis University with orthodontic specialty training and research into Invisalign outcomes, then a craniofacial cleft and palate fellowship through Washington University, based at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
