Teeth move for life, and retention is how a result holds

Nobody enjoys hearing it, so here it is plainly. Teeth keep drifting for as long as you have them, whether or not braces were ever involved. Retention is not a sentence you serve and finish. It is the part of treatment that never quite ends, and it is the difference between a result you keep and one you pay for twice.

You might be near the end of treatment here, wondering what comes next. Or you finished braces somewhere else years ago, stopped wearing the retainer at some point, and have watched the front teeth drift back since. Both are routine here, and the second is not a lost cause.

What retention involves

What to expect

A short visit, and nobody scolding you

Most retainer visits are quick. You come in, the fit gets checked, the wear schedule gets adjusted if your bite has settled, and you leave. If you stopped wearing yours three years ago, say so. It is the most common thing we hear and it changes the plan, not the tone of the conversation.

The office is Suite D120 on W. Anthem Way, ground level, with reserved parking at the door. No garage and no elevator between the car and a ten minute check.

How much do retainers cost in Anthem?
It depends on the type you need, whether one arch or both, and whether we are replacing something we made or starting from a new scan. The consultation is free and you leave it with an exact figure rather than an estimate. Major PPO plans are checked while you sit there. See how insurance and financing work.
How long do I have to wear a retainer?
In some form, for life. Teeth keep drifting well into later adulthood, with or without braces behind them. Most people step down from full time wear to nights only within the first year, then stay on nights indefinitely. Dr. Romans sets the schedule and adjusts it as your bite settles.
My teeth moved after braces years ago. Can you still help?
Yes, and you do not need to have been treated here. Bring the old retainer if you still have it, or nothing at all. Dr. Romans scans where your teeth sit now and tells you whether a new retainer holds them or whether a short round of treatment comes first.
I lost my retainer. Can you make a replacement?
Yes, both for our own patients and for people who finished treatment at another office. If the teeth have not drifted far, a new retainer made from a fresh digital scan usually holds them. Call the office and we will get you in before the drift makes the fit harder.
What is the difference between a bonded retainer and a removable one?
A bonded retainer is a thin wire fixed behind the front teeth that stays put without you thinking about it. A removable retainer covers more teeth and comes out to eat and brush. Plenty of people wear both. Dr. Romans recommends the combination that suits your case at the finish.
My retainer feels tight. Should I still wear it?
Wear it, and call us. Tightness usually means the teeth have shifted a little and the retainer is pulling them back, which is the job it was made for. If it will not seat fully, or wearing it hurts, stop and bring it in rather than forcing it.
